For partly minaret 'Fashioning the Early Modern' I was with my colleague Kirsten Toftegaard invited to participate in a workshop on exhibition and display of costumes yonkers department store and textiles in the period 1500-1800 in the museum context. It took place at the beautiful The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castel - here seen from the outside. An impressive building, an inspiring experience. 25.04.2013-27.04.2013 - read more about the museum at http://www.thebowesmuseum.org.uk
Floor plan and introduction to The Textiles & Dress Gallery, The Bowes Museum. Curator: Johanna HASHAGEN, assisted by Annabel Talbot / Exhibition yonkers department store Design: Blue's Design Company Ltd, http://www.bluedc.co.uk / Audio-visual material: Indigo Multimedia Ltd. / Mannequins in acrylic: The Museum Workshop Ltd. / Light: FusionLX
View of the exhibition - the exhibition starts with the youngest suits (c. 1960) and gradually go back in time. At the same time dims in lux (for tool age who will be spared from light) from display case to display case, the further one moves down in the exhibition - an incredibly well thought out solution which means that the eye gradually adjust to the darkness on its way through the exhibition . The beautiful showcases both highlights, underlines and lets costumes and objects speak for themselves - despite a large density in the layout, which was hugely functioning.
The exhibition is complimented yonkers department store by visual material (without sound) which together rocks panoramic close-ups of the clothes with fashion shots of models and contemporary images. Together, the depth of one's understanding of the history of costume, contemporary culture and context by providing a frame of reference for it, that goes beyond the suit - but also creates a movement in an otherwise static display. The many levels of suspension hanging from the ceiling of montrenes transverse sticks, creating a layer-by-layer effect, which gives a sense of depth and partly dynamics - both visually and in content.
The large glass display yonkers department store cases allow relatively easy replacement of objects, protects against theft, yonkers department store dust and temperature / moisture - while providing an elegant setting for the objects. From the ceiling hangs objects in the wires that support udstillingsdesignets ease while making it all a raw expression, which stands in good contrast to the tool detail and refined exports. All mannequins are fremtillet in acrylic without neck, head, arms and legs, which lets the clothes stand out by virtue of itself without any overriding elements. A brave decision, which also makes it difficult to exhibit accessories such as jewelry - but which in turn allows you to see down into the costumes, and thus study stitching Bottoms etc. A very, very good solution that simultaneously removes face as identity option and / or distraktionsmoment.
Illustrations, video and suits in one - located in showcases, which can be viewed directly through. On the way, the closest movement in suits when other guests moving around on the other side of the cabinet, and thus almost 'go around' between the objects. Something that enlivens an otherwise often static display of clothing that was just created for movement - and thus can cause us to think of what it would have been wearing these suits?
Textiles, clothing and paintings in a beautiful, estimates and narrative setup - here are the paintings give to us as visitors a broader picture of contemporary fashion, art and social issues. One consideration, many balk at implementing, but this just points out the context objects are part of - and thus helps to give a broader picture of the history and contemporary, yonkers department store and thus a better understanding of the objects themselves. We are not only visualized how the costumes yonkers department store were worn - but also, for example by whom and where on the very simple manner.
THE GLASS CUBE - a textile magazine with direct access to the collections. This allows visitors special days a week to get up close and study the beautiful lace and the rest of the museum's beautiful collections. Also held special yonkers department store events, which again underlines the importance of the object itself; there is something yonkers department store special about seeing 200-300 years old fabrics up close without glasses from.
Panorama View of the exhibition - The Textiles & Dress Gallery, The Bowes Museum. yonkers department store A beautiful, well-executed, atmosfærerig and interesting exhibition, which tests some cunning and successful exhibition opportunities and keeps an extremely tight and simple communication - both because of its video material, but also very much because of its short and precise exhibition texts max. approximately 50 words. Short, precise and manageable -
